Canvas Church

Leadership

Welcome to the Canvas family! Lisa and I cannot tell you how honored we are that you have chosen to check us out! I want to take the next few minutes to share with you about who Lisa and I are, and then communicate to you our hearts for Canvas as a Body of believers. First, allow me to share a little about us. We have been married for 26 years! God has blessed us with 3 amazing children: Elliott, Barrett, and Kelsey. After 11 years in corporate America, Lisa and I obeyed the call of God and entered full-time ministry in 2001. We have been passionately pursuing His vision for our lives ever since. For the first 10 years, we were in full-time evangelism while also serving the local church. Then in 2011, God began to speak to our hearts about a planting a church…but not just any church. We determined that if we followed this dream, our church would be a place where The Holy Spirit would be celebrated and not tolerated. Really, Canvas is the birthing of a dream that’s been leaping in our hearts for some time. We both have been active in some area of ministry now for over 30 years. Our faith journey has included rich experiences in many streams of The Body of Christ, including: Evangelical, Pentecostal, Charismatic, Anglican, and marketplace ministries. Why the name Canvas? In many ways, the very word depicts who we are in relation to what God wants to accomplish in and through us as His children. In Ephesians Chapter 2 verse 10, The Apostle Paul declares that we are God’s “workmanship,” created in Christ Jesus for good works…” The Greek word that Paul uses for workmanship is ‘poiema’, and it literally means masterpiece! The name Canvas conveys this theme, that we are a kaleidoscope of God’s design and He is the Master, creating us in the image of Jesus! Canvas was birthed out of a desire to see The Body of Christ reflect Heaven on Earth in every aspect of conduct, power, culture, and practice! Our hearts are for a multi-cultural, multi-racial, and multi-generational family of believers who will relentlessly pursue and respond to the presence of God. We believe the Book of Acts is the only template for what The Church should look like, and that Pentecost is as relevant today as it was 2000 years ago. With this multicolored palette of faith experiences, our dream for Canvas is to provide an atmosphere where an eclectic body of believers can come together in unity with a singular focus – connecting with God. We also believe that there are many who are seeking a place to worship where programs are secondary to relationships, and who seek a demonstrable encounter with a living Savior orchestrated by His Holy Spirit. We know that like us, there are multitudes of believers that have a longing for a deeper encounter with the One who made them. An encounter of this kind is possible, and has to power to transcend a Sunday worship gathering, spill over into our respective spheres of influence, and change the spiritual landscape of our city, state, and region! Thank you for hearing our hearts. We would love nothing more than to get to know you, hear your story, enjoy your presence, and dream together about all His Kingdom can be in the city of Birmingham! We are honored that you visited our home. Blessings!
